EASTON, Maryland – January 30, 2025 – The Oaks Waterfront Hotel in Easton, Maryland, is pleased to announce it has been inducted into Historic Hotels of America®, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation for recognizing, celebrating, and promoting the finest historic hotels in the United States.
The Oaks Waterfront Hotel is one of more than 300 hotels and resorts throughout the country that is recognized by Historic Hotels of America for preserving and maintaining its historic integrity, architecture, and ambiance.

To be selected for membership in Historic Hotels of America, a hotel must be at least 50 years old; has been designated by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior as a National Historic Landmark or listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places; and recognized as having historic significance.

The Oaks is rich in architectural integrity, with a history that can be traced to the 17th century. The location sits on a 42-acre portion of a land grant originally deeded to the Benson family by Lord Baltimore in 1680. This particular parcel was sold to the Harper family in 1884 and became known as Oak Hall. In 1902, Frederick and Louise Harper converted their farm into a boarding house. They hosted guests who traveled by steamship and train to enjoy the area’s serene beauty. Over the years, the estate evolved from a working farm into a hotel, and in 1971, it was transformed into a corporate resort and cultural conference center by Schwaben International, a German company. Recent renovations honor its historic past while offering modern comforts.
